מָעוֹן

מָעוֹןI m. (b. h.; עוּן) 1) (selection; cmp. בִּירָה, residence, esp. the Temple; המ׳ by the Temple! Tosef.Keth.III, 2. Tosef.Ker.IV, 4. Num. R. s. 12 שמת מְעוֹנְךָ בעליונים thou hast placed thy residence with the uppermost(angels). Koh. R. to XII, 7 מעוני טהור my residence (in heaven) is pure; a. e. 2) Maʿon, name of one of the heavens. Ḥag.12b. 3) (that which is looked for, sustenance, support (v. 1 Sam. 2:29; 32). Gen. R. s. 68, a. e. הקב״ה מְעוֹנוֹ של עולמו the Lord is the support of his world; cmp. מָקוֹם.(Ex. R. s. 24 מעון בתוך גרגרתו, some ed., read: מַעֲיָן.
